| OddJobPages.com was created with the aim of helping people to find better businesses. We recognised that people had difficulty finding businesses we trust, often this meant we just did the job ourselves. If we were confident that a good job would be done, perhaps even better than we could do ourselves, then we would be more likely to outsource the job leaving you with more time to do what you really want to do. Our feedback system allows you to make a more informed
decision based on the experiences our users have had with the company or individual in the past, hopefully resulting in an improvement on the traditional phone book. |
| Our aim therefore is to help users find good businesses and to help good businesses get more business. The site allows you to post your job, businesses then bid, you can then make a choice based on price and their feedback scores. It allows businesses to see the demand in their area, providing an opportunity for entrepreneurs to provide services that may not have been catered to previously. I hope it will encourage more people to start small businesses and earn some extra income, for example jobs like walking the dog or ironing could easily be done by anyone living near you who has some spare time and a use for some extra money. |
| The company was founded by James Ransley a student studying at the University of Reading. The idea for the website is my attempt to improve the way we find businesses, having seen people suffer very poor service from some businesses. Some businesses seem to be busy in spite of poor service, whilst other good businesses struggle for customers. My mother ran a florist shop for several years whilst I am certainly biased I believe that she was good, I have been told that it wasn’t uncommon to see flowers that were obviously dying at funerals made by other florists, and yet unfortunately she had to close the shop. The way we find businesses at the moment is not good for the customer and often people can get away with bad business practice hopefully this site will go someway towards correcting this. I decided to go ahead with the site in the spring of 2007 believing that I had little to lose and it's now nearly Christmas and I am ready to launch the site. |
